Not Your Usual Portfolio

While user-centered design has visual outputs, the majority of UX work is done outside of visual design tools.

In the user-centered workflow of Define → Strategize → Design & Iterate → Test → Implement & Review, only a single step (Design & Iterate) produces the flashy UI outputs that are the highlights of so many design portfolios.

A Focus on Design Leadership & Processes – Not UI Outputs

The projects in my portfolios speak to my emphasis on design leadership, user-centered and data-driven processes, and the overall impact of my work on key performance indicators (KPIs) – rather than the UIs created as an artifact of that work.

As such, the visual outputs displayed as part of this portfolio are limited to provide focus on my impact on my teams and the products we serve.

I led the transformation of EverDriven’s user experience strategy by building a high-performing design team and implementing a cutting-edge design system. Together, we delivered innovative, user-centered solutions that drove a 266% increase in students transported and contributed to the company’s successful acquisition.

I established Western Union’s first UX design team for B2B money transfer services, tackling significant usability gaps in a $180 billion payment system. Through research-driven redesigns, we reduced task abandonment by 40%, increased returning users by 22%, and positioned the company for acquisition by private equity investors

I wrote The UX Design Field Book to fill a gap I identified early in my career—a simple, accessible guide to UX design for beginners and non-designers that could also serve as a quick-reference guide for seasoned professionals.

The book has since become a bestseller, celebrated for making UX design approachable and earning accolades from industry leaders and learners alike

I designed and developed a custom tool for Nordstrom’s credit call center that reduced task times, improved efficiency, and saved the company $7 million annually in productivity.
